Our grandparents came over on boats from Europe and had to learn English in order to become citizens. Did that mean that they spoke it great? No, and my 89 year old, off the boat from Poland, "guest" of the Nazi's grandfather still does a Polish/English combination when excited or upset. The point is, for years and years, immigrants had to adjust to us, to the US and English and all that we have and stand for. Why are the present immigrants, mostly illegal, exempt from that? Why should I have to speak Spanish, why are they not forced to learn English? i understand that one needs to learn about other cultures in order to be well rounded, but do not force me to learn to speak another language.
